On Sunday, May 9, 2021, deputies with the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office conducted a check point in the 4100 block of S NC 87 Hwy, Graham, NC. During this time, a vehicle was stopped because the driver was not in possession of a driver’s license. Through the investigation, a K-9 alerted on the vehicle and a search was conducted. As a result of the search, Methamphetamines were located along with drug paraphernalia.
 
As a result of this investigation, Thomas James Albert Jennings was placed under arrest and charged with Felony Possession of Methamphetamines, Driving While License Revoked, and Failure to Display Registration Plate. Mr. Jennings received a $5,000.00 secured bond and had a first appearance in court on Monday, May 10, 2021, at 2:00 pm.

On Monday, May 10, 2021, just after 1:00 am, deputies with the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office responded to 4305 Michael Alan Court in Graham, N.C., in reference to a domestic disturbance where an individual was trying to break into a residence. When deputies arrived on-scene, it was reported that the victim’s ex-boyfriend had attempted to enter the residence through a window but had left prior to deputies arriving. Evidence was located at the scene to show that the suspect had attempted to enter the residence from the window as the victim reported.
 
A short time later, the suspect was located at 3313 S NC 119 Hwy – Lot 1 in Haw River, N.C., and placed under arrest. He was identified as Joshua Brandon Simber and charged with Attempted First-Degree Burglary, Injury to Real Property, and Resisting Delay Obstructing an Officer. Mr. Simber received no bond and was placed on a domestic hold. He had a first appearance in court on Monday, May 10, 2021 at 2:00 pm.

On April 15, 2021, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a debit card was stolen and used at multiple stores. During the investigation, security footage helped to identify the suspect as Ms. Patricia Ann Leath. Ms. Leath was charged with multiple counts of fraud and theft and given a $10,000 unsecured bond.

Alamance County Commissioners Recognize National Police Week
The Alamance County Board of Commissioners signed a proclamation on Monday, May 3, 2021, in recognition of National Police Week (May 9-15). National Police Week is an opportunity to honor officers who have fallen in the line of duty and recognize the sacrifices made by the families of those officers and the families of those who continue to protect and serve our communities

Alamance County Commissioners publicly recognized the Sheriff’s Office and all local law enforcement officers for their hard work, dedication, and commitment in protecting and serving the citizens of Alamance County.

In addition, the Alamance Sheriff’s Office also celebrates National Correctional Officers Week (May 2-8) which acknowledges detention officers and staff for their professionalism, fortitude, and courage exhibited in a complex, demanding, and challenging environment. Last week, the Alamance County Detention Center was one of thirty facilities across the nation to be recognized by the National Institute for Jail Operations and presented with a certificate in appreciation for the excellence exhibited by staff.

“It is a privilege and honor to work alongside the men and women who have chosen a career in law enforcement. Much of their work and the sacrifices that they make go unnoticed, yet each day they are willing to risk their lives in service to others. Thank you for joining us during National Police Week as we honor our fallen heroes as well as those who work to keep our communities safe,” said Sheriff Terry Johnson.

The Alamance County Peace Officers Memorial Day Service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on May 14, 2021, at the Alamance County Fallen Heroes Memorial (217 S. Main St., Graham, NC) to remember and honor those officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the residents of Alamance County.

Gar-Yon-Ded-Weh Stepney is believed to have been involved in the double homicide that occurred on 04-08-2021 at Wyatt Rd. in Green Level, NC. He has been charged with first degree murder and is considered armed and dangerous.

On April 7, 2021, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit conducted a traffic stop on Maple Avenue in Burlington, NC. Ms. Jessica Zamora Smith was found to be the operator of the vehicle.

During the course of the traffic stop, deputies conducted a search of the vehicle due to probable cause. As a result, approximately two grams of Methamphetamine and less than one gram of marijuana were found. Smith was taken into custody for possession of Methamphetamine, simple possession of Marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On April 7, 2021, the Alamance County Special Operations Unit attempted to stop a vehicle for a Chapter 20 violation, however, the driver of the vehicle refused to stop after multiple attempts, The driver was then boxed in by members of Special Operations and taken into custody. A K9 was deployed on the vehicle and received a positive alert which prompted a hand search which produced Methamphetamine, Xanax, and Paraphernalia.

The Alamance County Sheriff’s Office requests the public’s help in identifying persons of interest in possible connection to a break-in and vehicle theft that occurred at Green Auto Sales on the evening of March 15 or early morning on March 16, 2021.

On March 19, 2021, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Alamance Partnership for Children that several hotspots and tablets were unaccounted for as families had not received them. 

As a result of the investigation, a warrant was obtained for the arrest of Ms. Casey Hall, a former employee of the Alamance Partnership for Children, who has been charged for obtaining property belonging to her employer and forging signatures of clients to steal the hotspots and laptops for herself.
