Evidence Found In Stolen Truck Leads To Arrest Of Liberty Man

On Thursday July 7, 2022, the Burlington Police Department located an abandoned truck on Hanford Rd. that had been stolen the day before from an address on Garrett Rd. in southwest Alamance County. Inside the truck was a rifle which was also stolen from the Garrett Rd. address.

Additional evidence found inside the truck, along with the discovery of forensic evidence, identified Steven Clay Eastwood as the suspect. Further investigation identified Eastwood as the suspect in a Breaking & Entering of a residence on Garrett Rd. which occurred in December of 2021.

On Friday August 26, 2022, Eastwood was arrested, and charged in both cases.

Mebane Man Charged With Felony Sexual Exploitation Of A Minor

In May 2022, investigators with the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Human Exploitation Team (HET), began investigating a cyber tip. Investigators had reason to believe that an individual in the County uploaded Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) files to Dropbox. The investigation lead to a suspect residing in Mebane.

On Wednesday, August 24, 2022, HET and investigators with the Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU), conducted a search warrant at 210 Kit Ln, Mebane, N.C. Investigators found probable cause to charge the suspect identified as Samuel Aaron Saring Kulp of the residence.

Mr. Kulp was arrested and taken to the Alamance County Detention Center.

Guilford County Woman Arrested On Drug Charges In Hospital Parking Lot

On Wednesday night August 17, 2022 at 11:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Alamance Regional Medical Center, Deputies were attempting to interview a female who was believed to be a witness in an earlier assault case.

While Deputies were interviewing Jamie Lynn Wilburn, Ms. Wilburn exited her vehicle causing drug paraphernalia to fall on the pavement. When Deputies began to ask Ms. Wilburn about the paraphernalia, she attempted to flee. She was quickly apprehended.

A search of the vehicle was conducted where Deputies found Marijuana along with Alprazolam. Ms. Wilburn was arrested and transported to the Alamance County Detention Center.

Inmate Found Deceased In Cell

On Thursday August 18, 2022 at 5:30 a.m., Detention Officers were making routine rounds when an inmate requested to speak with an Officer.  Officers unlocked the two-person cell and found a second inmate to be un-responsive and not breathing.

Officers immediately began CPR and used a defibrillator in an attempt to revive the inmate. EMS quickly arrived and took over lifesaving efforts. EMS later pronounced the inmate deceased.

The SBI was called and is now handling the investigation along with the Medical Examiner to determine a cause of death.

The inmate was identified as Demarius Montreal Wheeler, 28 of Burlington.

Mr. Wheeler was booked into the Detention Center on August 10, 2022 by the Burlington Police Department on charges of 2nd Degree Trespassing and Resist, Delay and Obstruct an Officer.

Burlington Man Attempts To Flee Traffic Stop With Infant In Vehicle

On Friday August 12, 2022 at 10:10 p.m., Sheriff’s Deputies were requested to assist Elon Police who were in pursuit of a vehicle on University Dr. Deputies joined the pursuit at Rockwood and Front St. in Burlington. As requested by Elon Police, Deputies assumed the lead with the pursuit.

The vehicle continued to Shadowbrook Ave. heading towards Huffman Mill Rd. The vehicle was stopped in the 400blk of Shadowbrook Ave. where the driver, identified as Brandon Dewayne Eastwood, attempted to flee on foot through several backyards before being apprehended by Deputies.

Three other adults and an infant were passengers in Mr. Eastwood’s vehicle. There were no injuries to the passengers.

Custody of Mr. Eastwood was transferred to Elon Police who transported him to the Alamance County Detention Center.

Wanted Sex Offender Located and Arrested

Alamance County Detectives assigned to the Special Victims Unit have been looking for a known sex offender, Daniel Lee Young. Mr. Young failed to sign off his six (6) month verification letter which was due June 10, 2022. The offender is required to sign the letter in person at the Sheriff’s Office.

On Wednesday August 3, 2022, Detectives located and arrested Mr. Young in Burlington, N.C. and transported him to the Alamance County Detention Center.

Woman Charged With Multiple Felonies Following Drug Overdose

On Wednesday August 3, 2022, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit received a report of a suspected drug overdose at 1533 Stone St. Ext., Mebane. During the investigation Deputies identified Gena Rebecca Allen, of the residence, as the suspect. It is believed that Ms. Allen sold heroin to the victim causing the overdose. The victim survived the overdose.

On Thursday August 4, 2022, Deputies executed a search warrant at 1533 Stone St. Ext., Mebane.  Gena Rebecca Allen was arrested on multiple drug charges. Ms. Allen was also charged with larceny of motor vehicle parts after Deputies found a catalytic converter believed to have been cut from a vehicle. Ms. Allen was transported to the Alamance County Detention Center.

Durham Man Arrested On Felony Charges Of Soliciting A Minor

On Monday, July 18, 2022, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Human Exploitation Team began an undercover operation on social media in an attempt to locate an individual who sought to exploit children. An undercover officer was messaged by another user, later identified as Christopher John Matthews.

The communications became sexual with Mr. Matthews transmitting two sexually explicit pictures. The messaging continued for several days.

On Thursday, July 21, 2022, Mr. Matthews drove to Alamance County to meet at a predetermined location for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity with a minor. Mr. Matthews was arrested by Investigators and transported to the Alamance County Detention Center.

Social Media and CrimeStoppers’ Tips Aid Arson Investigation

In the early morning hours of Tuesday July 12, 2022, Deputies responded to an arson call at 2222 Durham St. Ext., Burlington, N.C. On arrival, the homeowners told Deputies they were awakened at approximately 1:10 a.m. to find an unknown subject trying to set fire to one of their vehicles parked in the driveway. When the suspect was confronted by the homeowner, he fled on foot. Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

Elon Fire extinguished the partially burned vehicle. An Elon PD Officer responded to assist with extinguishing the fire.

As the investigation continued, Detectives identified Jacob Roger Duggins as the suspect. Tips from Social Media Posts and CrimeStoppers aided the investigation. Mr. Duggins was arrested on July 18, 2022 and charged with the Burning of Personal Property and transported to the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office.

Community Complaints Lead To Multiple Felony Narcotic Charges

On Tuesday July 17, 2022, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit began a narcotics investigation at 5824 Chestnut Ln., Snow Camp, N.C.  The investigation began after the Sheriff’s Office received several community complaints concerning this residence.

During the investigation, Amber Nicole Jones of the residence, was found to be the suspect. On Tuesday July 19, 2022, a search warrant was executed at 5824 Chestnut Ln. Snow Camp, N.C.

Ms. Jones was taken into custody and transported to the Alamance County Jail.
