Alamance County Builder Facing Multiple Fraud Charges

On Thursday, May 30, 2024, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office received a report of fraud. The reporting parting stated that DBA BIT’s Builder was contracted to renovate a home in southern Alamance county. The reporting party identified Danny Chapman Lynch as the owner of DBA BIT’s Builder who had been paid to complete work on the renovation.

During the investigation, Criminal Investigation Division Detectives (CID), learned that the victim and Mr. Lynch agreed through a contract to have the work completed. The victim advised that Mr. Lynch began work in June of 2022 but has failed to complete the job. Detectives also learned that Mr. Lynch was paid $161,757 to do the renovation.

As a result of the investigation, Detectives found probable cause to charge and arrest Mr. Lynch on Friday, August 2, 2024. Detectives also learned that the Burlington Police Department received reports of two similar cases which resulted in charges against Mr. Lynch.

Wreath To Be Laid At Slain Deputy’s Grave

On Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 10:00am, the ACSO will honor the memory of Alamance County Deputy Sheriff Lawrence George Gowens.

The service will be held at the Historic Providence Church Cemetery, 819 N. Main St. Graham, NC. The Service will be conducted by the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard.

Deputy Gowens was killed 88 years ago on Friday, July 31, 1936, after responding to a domestic dispute in Graham, N.C., only two blocks from the Sheriff’s Office, where Robert S. Campbell had just shot and wounded his wife Bertha.

Deputy Gowens attempted to arrest Campbell when Campbell fired a single shot from his shotgun striking Deputy Gowens. Gowens died an hour and a half after the shooting.

Each year, the ACSO honors the memory of four Officers who have died in the line of Duty on or about the day of their death at their final resting place.

County Man Charged With Multiple Sex Charges Involving A Minor

On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, Detectives received a report of an alleged sexual assault of a minor believed to have occurred at a residence in southeast Alamance County. During the investigation, Detectives identified the suspect as Gary Harris, Jr.

After interviews with the victim along with the discovery of evidence, Detectives found probable cause to arrest Mr. Harris with 1 count of felony solicitation of prostitution of a minor. Mr. Harris was transported to the Alamance County Detention Center.

On Thursday, July 25, 2024, Mr. Harris was given a first appearance hearing and ordered held under a $30,000.00 secured bond.

Later the same day, Detectives established probable cause to take out additional charges on Mr. Harris for 2 counts of felony indecent liberties with a child, 1 count of felony statutory sex offense, 1 count of felony peeping using a photographic imaging device, and 1 count of misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Mr. Harris was served with the additional warrants at the Alamance County Jail and ordered held with no bond.

Former County Employee And Family Charged With Multiple Felonies

On Friday, June 14, 2024, Detectives in the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit began an investigation of embezzlement believed to have involved an Alamance County employee. Detectives discovered multiple purchases were made using Alamance County Government credit cards. Detectives developed reason to believe the purchases were for personal gain whereby probable cause was established to charge former county employee Tracy Smith Perry. Detectives also found probable cause to charge Ms. Perry’s husband and daughter for their alleged involvement.

On Monday, July 22, 2024, Major Crimes Unit Detectives arrested both Tracy Smith Perry, and William Walter Perry. The Perry’s daughter, Kaycee Marie Perry, was arrested on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

Detectives have located and seize some property believed to have been purchased with the county credit card.

Pair Charged With Rape, Kidnapping, Strangulation

On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, Sheriff’s Office Detectives were notified of an alleged assault on a female. The victim was being treated by medical personnel at the time Detectives received the notification.

Detectives responded and began an investigation of an alleged physical and sexual assault believed to have occurred in the 2900 block of Corbett Rd, Mebane, N.C. Detectives discovered that the victim had in fact been physically and sexually assaulted, and strangled. Detectives also learned from the victim, that the assaults took place in the female’s vehicle.

Detectives established probable cause to serve a search warrant at a residence in the 2900 block of Corbett Rd, Mebane, N.C. On Thursday, July 11, 2024, Detectives charged and arrested two male suspects, Luther Fitzgerald Enoch and Bradley Scott Briggs. Both were transported to the Alamance County Detention Center where they remain.

Report Of Counterfeit Currency Leads To Four Felony Arrests

From Friday, May 10, 2024 through Monday, May 13, 2024, ACSO Patrol Deputies began receiving reports from businesses in northern Alamance County of counterfeit currency was being used to obtain property, gas, and conversion to real currency. During the investigating, Deputies developed four suspects who all resided at the same location. Probable cause was found to request and execute a search warrant at 724 Morton Dr. Burlington, N.C.

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the search warrant was executed where Deputies found counterfeit currency, illegal narcotics, and several firearms, some of which were reported as stolen. As a result, the suspects, Kevin Davis, Shannon Davis, Dustin Davis, and Rachel Hall were arrested and transported to the Alamance County Jail.

Alamance County Fallen Officers Memorial Service To Be Held Tuesday, May 14, 2024

Thirteen Fallen Alamance County Law Enforcement Officers will be honored in a ceremony to be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at the Graham Presbyterian Church commencing at 10:00 a.m.

The Memorial Service is under the auspices of the Alamance County Law Enforcement Executives Committee and is held annually during National Police Week. The Alamance County Sheriff’s Office will serve as this year’s presenting agency.

Because of weather concerns, the service was moved from the Alamance County Fallen Heroes Memorial Garden to the Graham Presbyterian Church which is located at 216 W. Harden St., Graham, N.C.

The public is invited.

Deputy Care Presented With ACSO Lifesaving Award

On Thursday, May 9, 2024, Alamance County Sheriff’s Deputy Joseph Care was presented with the agency’s Lifesaving Award. Sheriff Johnson presented Deputy Care a plaque and uniform pin for Care’s actions on April 20, 2024 which saved a life.

On Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 4:00 p.m., Deputy Care was dispatched a report of an unconscious person at a residence in southeastern Alamance County near Saxapahaw. Deputy Care arrived within three minutes and located the patient who was unresponsive and had no pulse. Deputy Care immediately began CPR until the arrival of the Eli Whitney Fire Department and Alamance County EMS. Prior to Deputy Care leaving the residence, the patient regained a pulse and was transported to the hospital.

On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, Deputy Care’s supervisor, Lieutenant Taylor Ray, conducted a follow up with hospital staff who confirmed that the patient was alive and receiving treatment. Lieutenant Ray stated, “Upon reviewing these circumstances, I believe that Deputy Care’s quick response and actions resulted in the patient still being alive today. His training and experience show the high level of the employee he is, and continues to be, for the citizens of Alamance County. At this time, I nominate Deputy Care for a Life Saving Award based on his actions during this incident.”

When presenting the plaque and uniform pin to Deputy Care, Sheriff Johnson said, “Because of this young man’s actions, it is just another example of why I am so proud of the men and women who work at the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office.”

Mother Charged With Felony Child Abuse And Strangulation

On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office received a report of alleged child abuse. During the investigation, it was determined that the juvenile had been assaulted prior to going to school.

Special Victims Unit Investigators found probable cause to charge the child’s mother, Ashely Nicole Thompson. Ms. Thompson was transported to the Alamance County Detention Center on Friday, May 3, 2024.
