Trio Charged With Selling Heroin To Overdose Victim

On January 2, 2023, Deputies responded to the 2600 block of S. N.C. Hwy 87, Graham, N.C. to an apparent fatal drug overdose.

During the course of the investigation, Deputies developed probable cause to arrest Kyle Lee Johnson for the Sell/Deliver of Heroin to the victim which occurred January 1, 2023.

Additionally, Investigators developed probable cause to arrest Kyle Lee Johnson, Jacob Sterling Byrd, and Rachel Marie Hall, for Conspiracy to Sell/Deliver Heroin on February 2, 2023.

On February 2, 2023, Jacob Sterling Byrd was served with an arrest warrant for Conspiracy to Sell/Deliver Heroin alongside other narcotics-related charges. Byrd was given a $300,000 secured bond.

On February 6, 2023, Kyle Lee Johnson was served with an arrest warrant for Conspiracy to Sell/Deliver Heroin. Johnson was given a $35,000 secured bond.

On February 8, 2023, Kyle Johnson was served with an arrest warrant for Sell/Deliver Heroin to the victim. Johnson was given a $150,000 secured bond.

On February 13, 2023, Rachel Hall was served with an arrest warrant for Conspiracy to Sell/Deliver Heroin. Hall was given a $30,000 secured bond.

Additional Charges Added To 2021 Sex Offense Case

On February 21, 2021, the Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit began an investigation of Indecent Liberties with A Minor. On February 23, 2021, Dallas James Queen of Burlington, N.C., was charged and arrested for 2 counts of Felony Indecent Liberties with a Child and received a $20,000 secured bond. Mr. Queen posted bond the same day and was released. These charges are still pending.

In January 2023, Detectives received new information which disclosed more allegations of sexual offenses against the victim. Working with the District Attorney’s Office, SVU Detectives took out additional warrants against Mr. Queen.

Detectives learned that Mr. Queen moved from Burlington to Hampstead, N.C. (Pender County).

On Thursday, February 9, 2023, Mr. Queen was arrested by Pender County Deputies and transported to jail in Burgaw, N.C. Arrangements are being made to transport Mr. Queen to the Alamance County Detention Center.

Whitsett Man Charged With Selling Heroin Suspected Of Causing Overdose Death

On Saturday, October 1, 2022, Deputies responded to a suspected opioid overdose death on Swepsonville – Saxapahaw Rd., south of Graham, N.C. The Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Division took over the death investigation.

As a result of the investigation, probable cause was obtained to arrest Michael Monroe Patton II for sell/deliver of heroin to the deceased victim. On Friday, January 27, 2023, Mr. Patton was arrested at his residence and transported to the Alamance County Detention Center.

This case remains under investigation.

Employee Charged With Fraud Of Elderly Assisted Living Residents

On Friday, January 27, 2023, Deputies took a report of financial card theft. The two victims are residents of an assisted living facility in the County. The victims reported their financial cards were missing.  

During the course of the investigation, Detectives identified a suspect who was an employee of the facility. Through the investigation, probable cause was established to arrest Beverly Marie Jeffers. Ms. Jeffers was arrested on Saturday, February 4, 2023.

Mebane Man Charged With Sexual Exploitation Of A Minor

On Wednesday, January 25, 2023, the Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU), received a report of possible Sexual Exploitation of a minor. During the investigation, Detectives found reason to believe that a resident in Mebane, N.C., allegedly uploaded child sexual abuse material via the internet.

On Friday, February 3, 2023, the Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit along with the SVU and the Electronic Forensics Intelligence Team (EFIT), executed a search warrant at 207 W Holt St., Mebane, N.C., in reference to the investigation.

After the search of a computer at the residence, probable cause was established to charge and arrest the resident, Barrie William Oblinger. Mr. Oblinger was transported to the Alamance County Detention Center.

County Man Charged With Felony Indecent Liberties and Sex Offense With A Child

On Friday, January 13, 2023, Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit began an investigation in the 3500 block of Cunningham Drive, south of Mebane, N.C. This investigation involved a alleged sexual assault of a Juvenile by an adult.

During the investigation, Detectives established probable cause to charge Gary Wayne Moore, Jr.

On Thursday, February 2, 2023, Detectives took Mr. Moore, Jr., into custody and transported him to the Alamance County Detention Center.

Burlington Man Facing Multiple Drug Charges

On Monday, January 30, 2023, Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit were working in the 2400 block of Moran St., Burlington, N.C., when Investigators encountered Mr. Jacob Byrd.  

While speaking with Mr. Byrd, Investigators observed a clear plastic bag with a tinfoil top containing a white powdery substance in plain view in Mr. Byrd’s shoe. Byrd removed the bag from his shoe and handed it to an Investigator. Mr. Byrd advised the baggie was his and was heroin.

Mr. Byrd was placed under arrest. During a search incident to arrest, Investigators located three dosage units or 1.20 grams of blue Xanax bars inside Byrd’s wallet.

Mr. Byrd was transported to Alamance County Detention Center.

Daughter of Victim and Daughter’s Boyfriend Charged With Exploitation Of Elderly Person

On Tuesday, July 26, 2022, Special Victims Unit (SVU) Detectives opened an investigation following a report of fraudulent transactions from bank account of the reporting party’s 78-year-old mother. Detectives learned the transactions occurred from April 2021 through June 2022 while the victim was in and out of the hospital. The reporting party took over guardianship of his mother an discovered the funds missing.

As the investigation continued, two suspects were developed. Nancy Ann Minor, daughter of the victim and her boyfriend, Nicholas James Weaver Jr. SVU Detectives learned that Ms. Minor and Mr. Weaver were living in the victim’s residence during the time the funds went missing.

Detectives discovered multiple fraudulent charges on two of the victim’s debit and credit cards totaling over $20,000.

On Tuesday, January 31, 2023, both Ms. Minor and Mr. Weaver Jr. were arrested and transported to the Alamance County Detention Center.

Mebane Man Charged With Sexual Exploitation Of A Minor

On Monday, October 17, 2022, investigators with the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit, began investigating a cyber tip. Investigators found reason to believe that an individual in the County uploaded child sexual abuse files to a social media app.

Working with the Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Team (ICAC), the investigation lead to a suspect in Mebane, N.C. During this investigation, Detective’s identified the suspect at James Robert Bernard.  On Thursday, January 26, 2023, Detectives were able to establish probable cause and arrested Mr. Bernard.

Felony Indecent Liberties With A Child Charged Against Mebane Man

In early September, 2022, a victim reported sexual misconduct to Mebane Police Department Detectives. During and interview with the victim, Mebane Detectives learned of multiple incidents of Indecent Liberties with a Child which occurred at various locations outside of the Mebane Police Department’s jurisdiction. Mebane Detectives immediately notified the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU).

SVU Detectives were told by the victim that multiple incidents had occurred as far back as 2013 when the victim was a minor. The victim identified the suspect at Louie Otero. SVU Detectives developed probable cause to charge and arrest Mr. Otero.  

On Thursday January 19, 2023, Detectives presented evidence to the Magistrate who issued a Felony Warrant for Mr. Otero’s arrest. Later the same day, Mr. Otero was arrested by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Alamance County Detectives are also working with Wake County Detectives who are currently investigating a similar incident involving the same victim which occurred within their jurisdiction.
