Deputy Care Presented With ACSO Lifesaving Award

On Thursday, May 9, 2024, Alamance County Sheriff’s Deputy Joseph Care was presented with the agency’s Lifesaving Award. Sheriff Johnson presented Deputy Care a plaque and uniform pin for Care’s actions on April 20, 2024 which saved a life.

On Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 4:00 p.m., Deputy Care was dispatched a report of an unconscious person at a residence in southeastern Alamance County near Saxapahaw. Deputy Care arrived within three minutes and located the patient who was unresponsive and had no pulse. Deputy Care immediately began CPR until the arrival of the Eli Whitney Fire Department and Alamance County EMS. Prior to Deputy Care leaving the residence, the patient regained a pulse and was transported to the hospital.

On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, Deputy Care’s supervisor, Lieutenant Taylor Ray, conducted a follow up with hospital staff who confirmed that the patient was alive and receiving treatment. Lieutenant Ray stated, “Upon reviewing these circumstances, I believe that Deputy Care’s quick response and actions resulted in the patient still being alive today. His training and experience show the high level of the employee he is, and continues to be, for the citizens of Alamance County. At this time, I nominate Deputy Care for a Life Saving Award based on his actions during this incident.”

When presenting the plaque and uniform pin to Deputy Care, Sheriff Johnson said, “Because of this young man’s actions, it is just another example of why I am so proud of the men and women who work at the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office.”
